Drive components for heavy-duty applications
High torques are found in countless applications. Examples include forming machinery, mixing and kneading machines, and centrifuges in the plastics industry. In these applications, torques of 10,000 Nm and more are not uncommon. Perfectly matched couplings rise to these demanding challenges – regardless of whether they serve as rigid shaft connections for aligned shafts, act as compensating couplings to provide additional compensation for shaft misalignment, or need to offer reliable overload protection.
Steel disc couplings for torques up to 65,000 Nm
The GTR series steel disc couplings from the Diskflex range offer robust, torsionally rigid compensating couplings with a nominal torque range of up to 65,000 Nm. Depending on the size, the couplings feature disc packs in 6- or 8-screw configurations. They are available in single or double universal joint designs. To accommodate customer-specific shaft distances, they can be supplied as spacer shaft couplings with intermediate sleeves of any length.
The hubs and spacers are made of steel and are additionally phosphated to ensure corrosion protection.
Typical applications for steel disc couplings include, for example, high-torque printing and paper machines, conveyor systems, metalworking equipment, generators and turbine drives.
Sleeve couplings for shaft diameters up to 120 mm
For applications involving precisely aligned shafts and high torque requirements, Torqmax rigid couplings are the ideal solution. They connect shafts via a positive-lock connection with absolutely no play. The Heavy Duty version of this coupling series is available for shaft diameters from 55 mm to 120 mm and, thanks to its two-piece design, can be mounted radially. The bores feature grooves to provide additional positive locking. The Torqmax Heavy Duty is made of steel and has an additional burnished finish. Stainless steel versions are available as an option.
Slip clutches for torques up to 23,000 Nm
Securmax Slip clutches operate on a friction-locking principle and slip when overloaded once a defined torque is reached. Disc springs apply a preload to the friction linings. The magnitude of this spring force, and thus the torque level, can be continuously adjusted using an adjusting nut or screws. The slip hubs are load-retaining. This means that in the event of overload, the relevant transmission element slips, limiting the torque to the preset value. The hubs are available with adjustable torques of up to 23,000 Nm. The slip hubs can be combined with pulleys, gear wheels or sprockets. A variant for extra-wide transmission elements is also available.
Disengaging safety couplings for high torques combined with high speeds
Securmax Heavy Duty disengaging safety couplings are ideally suited for applications involving high torques and masses that also operate at high speeds. They feature individual disengagement segments evenly spaced around the circumference. Torque adjustment is achieved via the adjustment modules fitted to the face of each release segment by altering the spring pressure of the respective segments. Three alternative adjustable torque ranges are available for each coupling size. This range of transmissible torques is determined by the number of release segments. The Securmax Heavy Duty range includes versions for indirect drives as well as, in combination with compensating couplings, for direct drives with shaft-to-shaft connections.
