Drive components for robotics, collaborative Robotics

MRobotic systems are increasingly being used to automate tasks and make production processes more efficient. They operate either independently or in collaboration with humans as so-called cobots. In order to deliver highly productive results with consistent quality, appropriate coupling systems must work hand in hand with the robotic technology.

Backlash-free servo couplings support high travel speeds during the feeding and loading process

Loading robots enable the automatic and intelligent loading and feeding of workpieces into a wide variety of machines – from equipment in the food industry to CNC lathes and milling machines. The highly dynamic servo motor in each robot arm enables high travel speeds during the feeding process. This is where the lightweight and precise Diskflex and Belflex servo couplings come into their own. Their characteristics – lightness and minimised inertia combined with high torsional stiffness and zero backlash – ensure seamless interaction with the energy-efficient drive. If the focus is on providing additional protection for robotic applications, the backlash-free Securmax Servo torque limiters ensure reliable overload protection.

Perfect synchronisation in a multi-axis cutting system

Plastic components, insulation materials and building materials are often shaped into their final form using waterjet cutting technology. To achieve high productivity, modern machines operate as multi-axis gantry robots. The gantry axes are precisely synchronised to ensure accurate cutting to a specified format. Start-stop and reverse operation for tracing the contours are routine features of the motion sequence. Precise synchronisation in these gantry or portal systems, combined with the compensation of high shaft misalignment, is the speciality of the intermediate shaft couplings from the CD-Coupling series. These spacer couplings operate with two disc packs made from a high-performance fibre composite material. Thanks to the material-specific design of the discs, the couplings offer the advantage of high torsional stiffness combined with high shaft misalignment compensation. In addition to these properties, the torsionally rigid couplings provide electrical insulation.

Elastomer coupling with intermediate shaft enables vibration damping in gantry robots

In vibration-critical applications where the damping of shock and torsional vibrations is a priority, the Jawflex series elastomer couplings with intermediate shaft are the ideal solution. The range offers a choice of gear rings in two alternative Shore hardnesses to ensure adaptation to the respective operating conditions. The elastomer star is mounted in the two coupling halves under a slight, defined preload. This preload ensures backlash-free torque transmission. The couplings are preferably fitted with clamping hubs or split clamping hubs to allow for radial installation and removal. Thanks to the Hytrel material used for the gear rings, the couplings can be used in temperature ranges up to 120 °C.
