Drive components for the food industry

Couplings and other drive components for the food industry must fulfil special requirements in terms of material selection due to hygiene requirements and the media involved in the permanent cleaning process of the systems. Orbit Antriebstechnik supplies a complete programme tailored to these requirements. This starts with the actual food production and processing process right through to the packaging of the finished products.

Intermediate shaft coupling for precise synchronisation in multi-axis filling systems

Oldham couplings with stainless steel hubs are used in automated portion transfer and the most precise portioning of meat products. Multi-axis systems are used in the beverage filling process to achieve high output rates. The exact and precise synchronisation of these axes is essential here. Intermediate shaft couplings from the CD coupling series are used for this purpose. The intermediate shaft, hubs and other components are made of the appropriate grade of stainless steel.

FDA-compliant clamping collars

Clamping collars are often used in machines to hold components in place and as axial locking devices. Special material specifications apply for parts in contact with media and products in the food industry and for frequent cleaning processes. The Clampmax clamping rings made of FDA-compliant stainless steel 1.4404 fulfil the precise fixing tasks with high holding forces in these systems.

Corrosion-resistant safety couplings for perfect protection in food industry systems

In the food industry, there are special requirements regarding the corrosion resistance of all machine elements involved. Depending on the requirement profile, two different options are available for selecting suitable overload clutches. One of these options is the Securmax Servo in Niploy design. This high-quality surface coating is created in a chemical nickel-plating process with a high phosphorus content and offers a particularly corrosion and wear-resistant uniform coating. The Niploy coating is resistant to most organic and inorganic media. This makes this variant suitable for various applications and sectors such as the pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries. In packaging machines and filling systems in the food and beverage industry, stainless steel is usually the preferred or prescribed material. The backlash-free torque limiters in INOX design are the solution for integration into these hygienically demanding and cleaning-intensive systems.

Bevel gearboxes made of stainless steel

With the bevel gearboxes from the 5000 series, Orbit Antriebstechnik offers bevel gearboxes specially adapted for the food and beverage industry. Their housings and shafts are made of 1.4401 stainless steel and therefore meet the high demands of this industry.

Backlash-free couplings for precise dosing in flow-wrapping machines

At the end of a process, the products are packaged and labelled in appropriate units of measure. CD couplings perform their precise service in carton erectors. They are then filled with the corresponding products. This is often done with vacuum grippers, which grip the products and place them in the carton using the pick-and-place method. CD couplings are also used here due to the high precision requirements in intermettent operation. Tubular bag machines and machines for filling these using dosing screws are further examples - in this case for foodstuffs with a powdery consistency such as ready-made soups. Everywhere in the processes, sensors monitor the most precise sequence. The encoder couplings used here include Beamflex beam couplings, some of which are made of stainless steel. Other stainless steel products and drive components customised for the industry can be found in the Orbit Antriebstechnik portfolio, such as

  • Rigid couplings made of stainless steel
  • Bellows couplings with stainless steel bellows and stainless steel hubs in welded design and much more.
