Drive components for packaging machines

Precision is a top priority for packaging machines. Whether filling, labelling, palletising, sealing, forming or transporting. This means that coupling systems designed for packaging technology must work precisely and have high torsional rigidity. In order to fulfil the desire for increased productivity, packaging technology systems and machines operate dynamically and highly productively at high drive speeds. The demands placed on the shaft couplings and drive components used here are correspondingly high.

Backlash-free couplings for the dosing process: precise filling of tubular bags

The precise dosing and filling of tubular bags with mostly powdery end products is often carried out using dosing screws. In vertical dosing screw drives, the backlash-free CD couplings with aluminium clamping hubs and the backlash-free Belflex bellows couplings in clamping hub designs ensure the exact and dimensionally accurate filling of the bags in rapid start-stop operation. In flow-wrapping machines, the CD couplings also ensure precise film feed for designing the final packaging.

Precision couplings for carton packaging machines "Wraparound packers"

Carton packaging machines, also known as "wraparound packers", are usually found at the end of an entire packaging process. After liquid or powdery products, for example, have been packed or filled into tubular bags, bottles, etc. via various dosing and filling stations, they are then usually packed into cartons to protect them from possible damage during transport. The cartons are filled fully automatically by these machines. The lightweight and backlash-free disc couplings from the Diskflex series are used to precisely drive the vacuum grippers, which are responsible for positioning the products. The shaft clamping rings from the Clampmax series ensure reliable fixing and axial limitation of components on the respective drive shafts in the various stations of the packaging processes. Depending on the respective station in the packaging process, if there is food contact or stations are subject to regular cleaning processes, these shaft clamping rings are made of stainless steel.

Safety clutches for packaging machines in the food industry

In packaging machines for the pharmaceutical industry or in the food industry, there are special requirements regarding the corrosion resistance of all machine elements involved. Depending on the requirements profile, two different options are available for selecting suitable overload clutches. One of these options is the Securmax Servo in Niploy design. This high-quality surface coating is created in a chemical nickel-plating process with a high phosphorus content and provides a particularly corrosion and wear-resistant uniform coating. The Niploy coating is resistant to most organic and inorganic media. This makes this variant suitable for various applications and sectors such as the pharmaceutical and chemical industries. In packaging machines and filling systems in the food and beverage industry, stainless steel is usually the preferred or prescribed material. The backlash-free torque limiters in INOX design are the solution for integration into these hygienically demanding and cleaning-intensive systems.

Linear actuators ensure precise adjustment of the side guide in gluing machines

Folding carton gluing machines produce various folding cartons at high speed and with precise register. As the end product, they are often fed into the final process of a packaging operation, the carton packaging machines. In order to realise the required high output of these packaging systems, it is very important that the folding boxes are folded and glued precisely. For this purpose, the gluing machines have adjustment options to counteract unfavourable events such as skewed gluing or irregular folding processes. Special alignment processes are carried out during the insertion process. The Roh'Lix linear actuators are used to adjust a lateral guide mechanism. This compensates for certain irregularities during insertion to ensure that each blank is inserted precisely and at a defined angle and reaches the next station. These adjustment units are also used to adjust the blanks to different formats.

Rigid couplings as an economical solution for producing packaging for building material substances

Valve bags, cross bottom bags or side gusset bags are required as packaging for various building material substances such as mortar or screed. When producing such containers with precisely aligned shafts, the focus is on finding an economical solution for transmitting the highest torques. Shell couplings from the Torqmax steel series offer the perfect solution here. Their precisely honed bores, the quality screws used with their pronounced clamping force and their special screw locking device ensure optimised performance in torque transmission and that the screws permanently retain their clamping force even in the event of vibrations, so that the couplings transmit the torque for the production of these containers permanently and reliably. The two-part design ensures radial mountability. Similar requirements apply to machines for the production of food packaging such as cup machines. In accordance with the hygiene requirements, the cup couplings are made of stainless steel.

Low-inertia, backlash-free couplings for the highly dynamic labelling process

The marking of end products is an important identification feature and marketing tool. Lightweight and low-inertia couplings from the CD Kupplung, Diskflex, Belflex and Sliflex series are used in high-speed label printers. Precision and highly dynamic operation are top priorities here.
